Personal Goal Statement
I would like to express my interest in applying for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. I have decided to take this course because of several reasons. I believe that I currently pass all the necessary requirements for me to be able to be accepted at your institution.
I am 57 y/o with a BA Degree in Biology (1976), a BSN degree (1982) and an MSN degree in Adult Primary Care (2006). It clearly shows how inclined I am to the field of Nursing Practice and what drives me to take this path are the people who suffer from different organ failures every year due to Diabetes. I have a friend before who experienced renal failure due to Type I diabetes. He had had this disorder since he was three years old and I never hesitated to donate one of my kidneys as replacement to his damaged renal organs due to the said disease 18 months ago.
I have always been compassionate about these people and I really want to help them. For me to do that, I would have to reinforce my knowledge on the Nursing field. I personally think that my over 10 years of education plus over 30 years of experience is not enough for me to help these people out.
I currently work in a Major Metropolitan Medical Center as a Medical Practitioner. I have been in the same job for about a total of 4 years now and I enjoy being part of the Medical Team at that hospital, providing quality healthcare and nursing services to those who need it.
During the course of my career, I have discovered that topics about Diabetes made me interested the most. Just last year, I became a Certified Diabetes Educator. I really think that being a certified Diabetes Educator helped me boost my morale as a medical professional and I believe it will also help me progress more in my career.
Because of this, I have decided to broaden my expertise about Diabetes Care and ideally, I want to focus on Nursing Practices. In my experience, I have seen a lot of co-morbidities associated with Diabetes, both Type I and II. Therefore, I think it is critical for a medical practitioner like me to improve her knowledge in treating not only diabetes but other disorders as well. Now, I am fully decided to take this course.
I researched about this by asking several people I know and I usually got positive responses. In fact, my colleagues recommended that I pursue such plan because there is quite high a demand for Doctors of Nursing Practice these days and it’s fully legal in New York City where I work to apply for such Program.
